Jesus on the Streets (on Easter) - March 31, 2024
Happy Easter from the streets of Brockton where we served 106 meals of Easter ham casserole and 123 Easter baskets on a warm blue-sky day! We served so many people, and things were moving quickly for our small group but we were blessed to have the owners of Paws & Claws - bellingham join us to deliver the Easter baskets donated by their clients.
Each week we bring Communion elements (provided by Church of Emmanuel) for those who request it, but on Easter Sunday’s we place a bigger emphasis on sharing this sacrament. Today we were honored to serve Communion to 36 people on the streets and while they came from many different faith backgrounds and spoke different languages (or no language), all understood what was being offered and asked to receive the sacrament of Communion. This was the biggest Communion event of our 13 year history. Thank you Jesus!
People were so busy with Communion that there were only a few specific prayer requests:
Lisa is praying for healing as she has anemia and is hoping to avoid a blood transfusion.
Tyrone is asking for patient endurance for the situation of homelessness.
Tony clearly struggles with being deaf but was all smiles while with us and accepted prayer.
Jose is homeless and has family in NJ, FL, and Amherst
Keri is praying for her twins.
Irene is praying for those who loved her friend Nancy who passed away.
Yves was particularly heartbreaking as he was in ministry before becoming an addict and being disowned by his family and friends. (We reminded him that no one “used to be in ministry’, because it is a lifelong call, and so this is simply a pause in his life of ministry.)
Joseph did not go into detox last week as he has some legal issues to resolve but hopes to take care of that this week and get into a program.
There are lots of pictures with captions this week to explain what’s going on. We hope it gives a sense of the fun we have have serving those we love. (Try it with us, you might like it!)
It was a fantastic day of ministry on the streets of Brockton and we thank you all for providing the means to keep LYNN MInistries going. Happy Easter!
