Jesus on the Streets - March 24, 2024

It was cold and really windy today in Brockton so, yes, we needed winter coats. We had a team of 10 with us to serve a huge smorgasbord of southern barbecue to 83 friends on the street. (It was a serious food fest with 3 main courses. Thank you to Church of Emmanuel for donating the food.) We only made it to two stops before we ran out of food as people were desperate for a hot meal after 24 hours of rain that dumped over 3 inches of water and soaked people to the bone.

We had some wonderful moments of prayer and some uplifting events, as well as some excitement from one of our female friends who was off her meds and having a hard time being respectful. (Some of these situations are truly heartbreaking.) Fortunately our friend Michelle sang for all of us trying to bring peace to the situation. Here are the prayer requests:

  • Junior is excited to be next in line to get an apartment and praying it happens soon.

  • Anthony had a seizure over the weekend and hurt his shoulder. He is hoping to be moving out of state next week and we wish him Godspeed.

  • We prayed with Jim, who lost all his clothes while he was out working on a day job. How is someone supposed to get ahead when they can’t protect what they have while working? We had a few things that should make him more comfortable tonight.

  • Dan is asking for prayers for a young girl who seems to be living in a dangerous situation and her addiction is possibly being used for sex trafficking.

  • Harry is praying for strength and blessings on his marriage.

  • Richard is praying that his soul will be revitalized.

  • Kimberley and Derrick ask for prayers for their marriage.

  • George is praying for better health

  • Odette is praying to control her anger and for God to guide her down the correct path.

  • Kevin is praying for strength

  • Eugene is praying that love overpowers hate

  • Joseph had a fervent prayer that he would go tomorrow to get into a detox program.

We had some funny (but also heartrending) exchanges with Moyo, Joseph and Dave, all of whom were sheltering under a bridge.

While it was cold, it warmed our hearts to be able to bring some peace and comfort to our friends on the streets of Brockton. Thank you to all who make this ministry possible and thank you to the many people who have opened their hearts and calendars to come serve with us on the streets!
