Jesus on the Streets (on a windy day) - April 10, 2022
It was a really nice but windy day in Brockton as we served meals to 58 people. Chris, Tracy, and Sheri were leading the team (with me just monitoring…more or less 😉). Many of our friends were really emotional as, with the nicer weather arriving, drama, drugs, and alcohol are all increasing out on the streets.
Junior was in a really bad way today because his ankle bracelet ran out of battery and he’s worried he’ll be arrested (someone stole his charger). Rosco was doing the meth dance, and Dave was doing a drunken jig wearing a funky wig. Freddy’s potassium medicine is making him dizzy so we called his nurse. John was excited to reconnect after several weeks out of touch. Anthony is limiting his alcohol consumption but is confused/ upset because his dying father asked to see him and then, after Anthony agreed, his father changed his mind and said “no”. (It’s a messed up situation.) Harry’s brother passed away. Princess died of an overdose. Robert is hoping to move in with a friend (off the streets). Dawn has only the clothes she’s wearing and doesn’t know where she’ll be sleeping tonight.
It’s sad that as the weather improves, and fear of COVID drops, people’s behavior is getting more erratic. It’s like all the bottled up stress of the last 2 years is gushing out in a flood of yuck. Thank you for helping us care for the least of these, forgotten and invisible.
