Jesus on the Streets (on a warm but wet day) - March 6, 2022

Today it was warm and wet in Brockton as we served 68 meals of cheesy cauliflower, veggie, and bacon casserole to our friends on the street. We were loading up large portions as we thought the rain would keep people away. But when we were sure we’d run out of food (we checked and all the pans were gone) we checked again and “found” another pan of food. And when the last pan of food had been served, everyone had been fed. You can’t make this up because it happens to us so often (at least twice per year). We’ve simply come to accept God’s mighty provision (multiplying effects of loaves and fishes Mark 6:30-44).

We had a number of prayer requests including our friend Russell who’s now in a wheelchair with a torn groin muscle. Anthony has been sober for 8 months, 1 day and 14 hours. Chris is hoping to get out of Brockton and to the south shore closer to his daughters. Will fixed someone’s bike and they were super happy. Anthony (different Anthony) wants to get into rehab because he’s addicted to heroine and anxiety medication. He doesn’t want to still be living on the streets in 20 years and he wrote a personal note to the middle school kids who made the candy bags we were handing out. Vincent is still waiting for his green card. Christina broke our hearts because she was off her meds and cussing us out to the point we had to ask her to leave so she threw her food on the ground and stormed off. We could tell that she knew she was in a bad state of mind but she just couldn’t control her rage and it’s really hard for us to not take the insults personally. She’s suffered so much abuse in her life and we are simply praying for God to clear her mind and soothe her soul and restore the sweet woman we see from time to time.

That’s the good, the bad, and the ugly of today and we are blessed by you and Jesus for the opportunity to serve the least of these in Brockton. Thank you!
