Jesus on the Streets (on a gorgeous day) - July 10, 2022
What a beautiful day to be serving in Brockton! It was warm and dry and sunny. We served 99 people a meal of ham casserole along with some people receiving sandwich wraps. The tone on the streets was again a bit tense as many new people came to us and were often high on something. Our long-term friends seemed to be keeping their distance from the newcomers so we were guarded at first but there were some deep needs in the requested prayers.
At Pastor Roberto’s, Wilfredo is asking that each day get a bit better. Scott has a catheter, and the bag leaked but fortunately we were able to supply him with some fresh clothes. Anthony is happy that his neighbors have been quiet recently so he can sleep. John is asking for protection on the streets. Another friend John can’t get Chuck to answer the phone and is worried. He doesn’t know where Chuck has setup his tent but knows he was really sick, perhaps with cancer. Jacqueline is asking that we be praying on God. Don is asking for prayer to help him and his girlfriend Laura get through these tough times and find the money for rent. (He needed a hat so I gave him mine. It was easier this week and starting to become a habit.) Trevor and Jordan are new to the streets. She thinks she’s pregnant (so we bought her a pregnancy test) and they’re hoping to get housed away from Brockton. Tracy told us that our other friend named Anthony is in the hospital with cancer and must have his voice box removed. We had a video call with him later in the day and he’s nervous but hopeful. (Anthony has a deep faith in God’s love.) Sheila is heartbroken and ashamed to learn that her two children were sexually abused by their father. She feels responsible and this was a particularly challenging prayer time. I asked her to avoid seeking comfort in drugs and to sit with God in her sadness to see what He has to say to her. Jose is in a lot of pain from his hip but still needs to go to work. Cherish is hoping for housing with her daughter. Junior looks good but we’re sad he did not go into rehab as he had planned.
At the Library, Bobby and Andrea have found a safe place to sleep and are hoping to keep it secret. It was great to see Danny who got a job, and an apartment, and a car.
Thank you all for your support of LYNN Ministries and the work we do on the streets!
