Jesus on the Streets (3rd Saturday) - July 16, 2022

It was a hot, sunny day on the 3rd Saturday of the month in Brockton as we served over 80 meals of chicken primavera across the city. We also had fresh watermelon, which was a huge treat as well as the wide variety of clothes we typically bring on Saturdays. We heard about 3 deaths this past week and so we were worried about how the day would go. It was a remarkably quiet day with not much activity up at the park and it seemed that a lot of the drug dealers were keeping a low profile after the recent rash of overdoses. Before heading into the city we prayed to see some new faces and to experience a miracle and God fulfilled those prayers.

Prayers are needed for Anthony, who suffered another seizure last week and is still struggling with the after effects. Donna is in shock as her mother passed away unexpectedly while on Cape Cod. Jay broke his heel and is on crutches and a walking boot after chasing someone who stole his phone. I met a new guy named Winston who was super friendly. Erika has been sick for 3 days but felt much better after having some fresh watermelon. Olavo was not in a good place (mentally), and neither was Christina. Kenny told us that our friend Tom is still in the hospital suffering with a lung infection. Our friend Anthony R is waiting for throat surgery on Aug 1 to remove cancer (and his voice box). At the end of the day a guy came looking for a woman named Deb. His name was Jesse and she didn’t recognize him even though he insisted they knew each other. Deb and Eric used to serve Jesse at The Haven, a daytime resource center, over five years ago when he was struggling with addiction. He entered a recovery program and then moved to Memphis, but now he’s back in Brockton and owns a few barber shops (employing people and contributing to the city)! He’s been looking for LYNN Ministries each week to say thank you. What a gift to know we played a role in Jesse’s recovery. Thank you Jesus!

Thank you to all our contributors and supporters that make this work possible!
