Jesus on the Streets (on a beautiful day) - September 3, 2023
Sunday was a beautiful day to be in Brockton serving 113 meals of Buffalo chicken to our friends on the street. Pastor Roberto’s parking lot is looking much neater (someone cleaned up all the trash). During our conversation with Pastor, he expressed that he’s under a lot of stress as a nearby store has been complaining to the city about the homeless being served meals at the church. I don’t have all the details but this seems odd and unfortunate.
Our day of service started off slow, and then rapidly accelerated until we were mobbed. That said, all our guests were well behaved and we had a good day of service. There were a number of prayer requests:
Abby is covered in bruises and we are very worried for her
Richelle is praying for sleep as there is a lot of noise at the shelter and overcrowding
Anthony is praying for peace and strength as there is a lot of drama around him.
Roscoe is praying for his mother Rosa
Kylie asked for general prayer, and then came back for more
TJ needs prayer as his English is not strong yet he’s being called on (constantly) to be a translator for others.
Erika has a birthday on Tuesday (she’ll be 41)
Will said he always leaves us happier
Wayne told me how an 8 year old friend of family miraculously survived a motorcycle accident
Andrea wants prayers for her brother who was stabbed
George is praying that the e we iels will change the way it thinks, selfish and self-centered.
Derek is working but living outside because the shelter is too crowded
Jordan (living under a bridge) is praying for guidance and protection
Keshaun (different guy than earlier this year) is praying for his kids who were in a car accident
Finally, we are sad to report that our friend Edgar died this week. While riding his bike he fell and hit his head. He never recovered. There has been so much death in 2023, and much of it is not drug related.
Thank you all for helping us love the least of these.
