Jesus on the Streets (in Attleboro) - November 11, 2023

My apologies for posting this so late. (I have been on business travel.) Here is an update from the LYNN Ministries team at Evangelical Covenant Church, Attleboro.

Saturday was a beautiful day to be out serving our homeless and at risk friends in Attleboro. We were able to serve about 35 folks, but some were missing, which could be a good thing, as long as they were warm. Today’s team was made up of our ECC Youth Group and leaders who spent the weekend camping outside as part of Homeless Awareness weekend. They used their weekend to sort donated goods, panhandling, and serving joyfully for LYNN Ministries. Funds raised pandhandling will be distributed to several organizations that serve the homeless and at risk population in the area. Kudos to all the youth and leaders who gave up their weekend, to raise awareness and funds to end homelessness.

Prayer Requests -

- Carrie and Eric were happy to see us, but we have concerns about their health. Carrie has a MRSA infection in her finger, and was hospitalized for it for 5 days. It has returned, and she needs to get back on the meds. We were able to give them some bottled water, and winter coats, and they were very grateful. Eric has a lead on a small apartment, so please pray that it comes to fruition, as they have been outside for over 2 years now.

- Debbie was happy to see us, and get some clothes, food, and drink for herself and George. We visited their campsite, which is well off the road and way back in the woods. There are 3 folks living back there, and they are getting worried about the winter.

- Julie has been getting cortisone shots in her back and she’s still in pain.

- Irma has 3 children who are not getting along, and asks for prayers for peace and health.

- Robin prayed for our Pastors, Chris and Cristina, who were deeply moved by her words.

- Julio and Olga are new to Attleboro, and need prayers for continued employment, and warmth.

- John “Dino” asked for prayers for his brother and our friend Willy, who was hospitalized with heart problems, and is now in rehab, but not doing well, according to Dino. Please pray for Willy’s recovery.

Lastly, there is still a sense of remorse over the loss of our friend Roland, just a month ago. We had met Roland back in May, and were able to give him a tent and some other supplies. Roland had been having some differences with his family, and he had to leave his parent’s home, where he had been living. He was struggling living outside, but always had a smile when we saw him at Food ‘n Friends and our LYNN serving dates. Roland’s death was sudden as he fell in the woods near his campsite in Attleboro, which was near a stream. Sadly, he drowned in a few inches of water, and was found later by some friends that had gone to see him. Roland’s story is tragic and why we keep working to bring an end to homelessness.

Please pray for LYNN Ministries and organizations like it, who are trying to put an end to homelessness in this country. That journey starts with our friends understanding that they’re created in God’s image and as such they have value despite what society may say. Understanding their worth is the beginning of the journey. Thank you to all who help LYNN Ministries in this endeavor.
