Jesus on the Streets - January 15, 2023
Here is an update from the LYNN Ministries team that served on Sunday. Thanks to Tom and Deb C who led the team while Deb and I were representing the ministry at a church event.
Sunday was a cold, blustery New England winter day. The temperature was in the upper 20s with flurries in the air as we served a hot meal with hot coffee and cocoa. Because of the cold, the day was rushed. Gusts of wind blew everything include a tray of meatball casserole. Friends purposefully came to the table, got their food and drink and hopefully retreated to relative warm shelter for the evening. Despite the cold, there were warm smiles and hearts, and a calm sober environment, though some of our friends were fighting the cold by numbing themselves to it.
Freddy came dressed for the weather, but was still rocking a woodman’s fur lined hat with ear muffins. Others were without gloves and hats, using thin blankets over their heads for warmth. We gave all we had to help ward off the chill. We did not keep a good record of how many we served this week (it was 67), God put on our hearts to simply give as much food as needed to strengthen and sustain bodies through the night. Brockton continues to strike the tents from the park next to Pastor Roberto’s Church! Many wanted to pray, which is a blessing to all of us. Overall, the prayers are for health and shelter.
We were happy to again see Bruins John if only to speak briefly.
We also saw Red (Jennifer) is out of prison and asking for prayers for her estranged family.
Please pray for God to calm Jay’s fear as he under goes foot and ankle surgery.
Carlos for the health of his family.
Laverne for her family’s health and for calm in their relationships.
Angela for her family to be reunited.
Donna H, who is homeless again, for a new clean apartment.
Chris prays for Theresa who is sick and working too hard and his wife’s health
Paul for his health.
Jennifer for a place to stay.
Emmanuel for a softer heart and God help him to be friend to his adversaries.
Christopher for a place to live.
Gregory for health and help as he grieves the loss of his girlfriend.
Willis for kids and family and things go well with them.
Peter for success in his application to live in Brockton Common.
Cici that his housing application is granted quickly.
Nicole for an apartment.
We were blessed with a wonderful and dedicated team, Deb, Aubrey, Jairah, Dave, Joanne, Lyla and Tom. We were able to connect and provide some warmth of food and spirit, which blessed our lives and we hope the lives of our friends, as we remember the realities of being on the street this weekend. Grace comes in moments, may we all be open to it. Lord, we thank you for the love and support that allowed us to serve your people today.
