Jesus on the Streets (in the heat...again) - August 7, 2022
Here’s a report from Sunday’s team that served in Brockton.
Today we served 71 meals in the scorching heat. We were without Deb and John, as Deb was biking the Pan Mass Challenge, and John was supporting her. We brought a card for everyone to sign to show our appreciation and admiration for Deb. It was a great way to celebrate with our Brockton friends!
Danielle and Tim (with the confused Southern Illinois accent) are hoping that they would be able to move out of the city and into the country. Barbara was wearing a necklace that carried her sister's ashes. She was afraid that if I prayed God would strike her dead, but she let me pray for her anyway. She said it's hard to not use drugs when everyone in her building does. She hopes to be able to move to Fall River to be with her daughter and grandchildren. Robert spent 5 days in the hospital last week because he could not walk. He's still angry with God about his feet, but knows that God will forgive him. Michelle was thankful that her sister moved back from Florida, and they are supporting each other to make good decisions. She's trying very had to stay away from the park. Janet came by with Carol to let us know that she is being well taken care of. Frankie recently had a fall and was leaning hard to one side. To make matters worse his back brace had been stolen. His arms were covered with open sores so Joanne and Ang carefully bandaged him up using our first aid kit. Pastor Roberto came by and offered to provide more help for Frankie.
At the Library, more friends were eager to sign Deb's card. Edgar had to take a seat when he heard that she just biked over 200 miles! He and Eugene were very happy to receive shoes and clothes. We enjoyed conversations with Domingos, Bobby and Kevin, who took our team photo. We also met Miyoshi, who happened by on her way to the library carrying a copy of the Apocrypha. She had just returned from Jamaica and is in the process of reestablishing herself. We all enjoyed getting to know her, and she hopes to return next week to learn more about us and to see if she might serve with us in future weeks.
Thank you for your prayerful support! We felt blessed and protected as we served today.
Thank you to our teams, who allowed Deb and I time away to complete the PMC. You guys rock!
