Jesus on the Streets (in a heat wave) - July 24, 2022
Here’s a report from Sunday’s team serving in Brockton.
It was a hot day, at least 95 deg in the shade. We served 91 meals (a smorgasbord of different things) plus another 15-20 who got just a beverage and snack or fruit. We went thru 15 gallons of water, which is probably a record for us.
It was a small team and so we forgot about handing out sunscreen and bug spray until we were almost done but people were very appreciative when we started passing it out.
There were a number of prayer requests and updates:
A woman was flailing around in middle of church driveway and half naked when we arrived. They got her dressed and a few minutes later she was fully coherent so it didn’t seem like she was “tripping.” Not sure if there’s something neurological but it seemed people on the streets were looking out for her.
There was less interest in prayer today. People just seemed hot, tired, and defeated. A guy named Keela asked for prayers to keep moving forward and keep positive. Bonito asked for prayers but nothing specific. Mary is back in the hospital because she was hemorrhaging. Rashawn wants prayers to keep negative thoughts out of his head. Wendy got housing after a long history of abuse and anxiety. She was jumpy and afraid to be in that part of town. She was very grateful for prayer. Sammy is still struggling with a back injury and feeling defeated. Eddie’s girlfriend is doing poorly with her health. He wants her to go to hospital. Anthony seemed pretty good.
The team felt good about our day of service but it was a hard day out there. People are miserable, cranky, hot, desperately thirsty.
Thank you all for the support you provide!
