Jesus on the Streets (double header weekend) - June 19-20, 2021

It was a hot, humid day in Brockton (around 90 deg) for Day 1 of a doubleheader weekend. We served Mac and cheese with ham and peas to our friends, and over 75 people came through to get food and clothing.

It was a pretty crazy day with many highs and lows. Robert finally got a shower and some sleep and he now seems much better but has discovered a lump under his armpit causing him worry. Mo just got out of jail and looks really good/healthy (we’re praying he avoids more trouble). Kenny’s court cases were all resolved and, while he lost custody of his daughter, he really likes her foster family. Steve needs help staying away from cigarettes. Terri is being evicted from her apartment of 20 years. We sang to Peter for his 27th Birthday. Tom finally made it outside to visit us. The most troubling news we heard was that a young girl had been molested at one of the buildings where we serve. We haven’t been able to verify this but just the possibility added to a very emotional day.

We thank you all for helping us serve our friends in need.

Day 2 in Brockton was Father’s Day and it was hotter but dryer than Saturday. It was also quieter. We still fed 69 people with a smorgasbord of food including chili, rice pilaf & chicken & veggies, turkey casserole, and also home baked goods, fruit, and lemonade or iced tea. We had special gifts for all the dads (cooling neck wraps that Tracy discovered for us).

John H was excited to tell us he got a job shortly after we prayed for him, and he just received his first paycheck! Edgar was really suffering in the heat. Omayra is exhausted as she struggles with cancer. Lisa has a bum knee. Raymond A is missing his daughter, Najah, who has MS and is not responding well to medication. Chuck was quoting scripture to me, Hebrews 4:16 (Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.). Nina’s 2 month-old granddaughter, Amelia, has a blood disorder with her platelets and needs frequent transfusions. Katrina asked for health, housing and help with finances. Sammy is worried about his kids in Kenya getting drugged up. Will was excited to see we had two t-shirts he requested more than a month ago and even more excited that someone found his wallet and returned it to him. (Thanks Bobby!)

We had a really good teams this weekend and it was a fun to serve in the sun (instead of rain). Thank you to all our supporters!
