Jesus on the Streets (double header weekend) - April 17-18, 2021
Day 1 - It was a cold, rainy day in Brockton and the first day of a double-header weekend (serving Sat & Sun). Is it really mid-April?
The team served 57 people across the city. We had a great team but failed to take a group picture (sorry). We saw all types today (happy, sad, housed, homeless, sober, not-sober), which made it pretty interesting.
We saw the guy that OD’d last Sunday and he apologized for making us use Narcan on him (he freaked us out). Prayer requests were pretty wide-ranging, Robert can’t find his debit card, Will desperately wants to help us serve tomorrow, Robert successfully moved to a new place, and Danny was really depressed and feels like he’s “just done”. It seemed like everyone needed to keep talking and sharing, which made it a really special day.
Day 2 - We had better weather and served 73 people (with only 5 volunteers).
It was really busy at Pastor Roberto’s where we served at least 50 of our friends. Pinkham St was kind of rowdy, and we finally got to talk to Mike-in-the-Woods. Sadly, Will didn’t show up today to help us setup (he really seemed like he wanted to help yesterday).
We hadn’t seen our friend Joel for a few years but he stopped by to tell us he’s doing really well. (He’s escaped homelessness and addiction and now has an apartment in another town.) Prayers were focused on: Reuben, who is still fighting his addiction; Bobby, who is avoiding us since he decided against rehab (for now); Chuck, who lives under a bridge is super thankful for our ministry; and we haven’t seen Charlie in weeks. Pastor Roberto seems really tired (please pray for him).
It was an awesome day!
