Jesus on the Streets (3rd Saturday) - September 16,2023

Today was a windy day in Brockton with a little bit of rain (thanks Hurricane Lee) as we served 86 meals of Chicken Piccata and lots of clothes to our friends. It was the 3rd Saturday, so we made several stops throughout the city. Overall it was hard not to feel depressed with too many people in dire straits that we can’t fix. Fortunately we have faith that God will be working in their lives and we remind our friends that they can overcome their challenges with God’s help.

- Junior was in really bad shape today. We haven’t seen him this under the weather, ever. He was wearing clothes much too small and was physically ill when we arrived. He needs our prayers.

- Marie was waiting for us to pray with her and asks for her daughter to love God as she does.

- Migdalia is asking for prayers for her brother who has a heart condition.

- Fitz says Irish Catholics rock! We had a long talk about respect on the streets but grace abounds.

- Alicia is back on the streets and not well prepared for it. (I often wonder about the emotions that must be experienced when going into the shelter and asking for help.) She has a housing voucher but can’t find an apartment she can afford. She needs prayer.

- Mary had stomach surgery and was released with an open wound. She is desperate for healing.

- Charmaine, Lisa, and Carrie asked for prayer to keep them safe and to get permanent housing.

- Alex & Samuel are two Haitian immigrants. I found a version of The Lord’s Prayer in Creole and they helped me say it.

- Ashley wants to go into a recovery program but no beds are available.

- Michael has cancer and only months to live.

- Robert is just out of hospital and has a gash on his head but looks healthier than in the recent past. (Anthony, his friend, is back on the streets and afraid his son will be taken away.)

- Heather confessed she is addicted to heroine and crack cocaine but can’t seem to overcome it.

- Sammy is still sober and hoping to get back to his family in Kenya.

- Joanne needs prayers for her 13 yo daughter who’s been taken away.

It was an emotional day for us, full of heartfelt prayer and a strong sense of God’s presence. Thank you all for your ongoing support.
