Jesus on the Streets (3rd Saturday) - October 21, 2023

Deb and I were away at a wedding this past weekend. Here is an update from the LYNN Ministries team that served on Saturday in Brockton in the rain. Thanks to Sheri, Chris, and Eric for leading.

It was a great day for ministry on the streets of Brockton but it was very wet. It started as a drizzle and was full out raining by mid afternoon but our friends showed up and we were happy to see them and serve them. Stephanie and Mary were an added blessing as they were able to welcome our Haitian friends in Haitian Creole. With their help we could get them the things they needed. In past weeks our friends seemed seemed confused and somewhat panicked but today they seemed calm and grateful. We distributed sweatshirts, sweaters, socks, underwear, shirts and pants as well as hats and gloves to our new friends from Haiti and others who have come to rely on us for these material needs. Drew and Pat were on hand to give away eyeglasses (readers) to those in need and of course we offered a comforting warm meal of broccoli and sausage quiche, snacks, baked goods and fruit. Today even more than other days, a hot cup of coffee or cocoa was especially appreciated.

We made four stops serving over 89 meals and distributing clothes to at least 10 more people. (There were at least 15 people living under a bridge.)

- PB, Greg, and Mo all asked for prayers as they are going to job interviews this week. Greg was thankful for the nice black pants we gave him for his interview.

- We prayed with George who is waiting for answers about an health concern.

- David asked for God to give him confidence as he tries to move forward in life.

- Skylar is feeling encouraged about making some progress and asked God to help her as she looks for a job.

- We prayed that God be with Troia as she seeks a rehab placement.

- Ashley, Victor and Domingos asked that we pray for others in need, and Maoe only wanted to say prayers of gratitude because she was feeling sick yesterday but woke up today feeling greatly improved. My heart was particularly touched by her prayer of thanks. What a blessing it is to feel well.

- Robert, Antonio and Manny just wanted someone to pray for them.

- Jimmy had open sores on his face and just asked that we pray for better health

- Mike (aka Lumpy) always has a joke to share with us. His spirit is strong and he has a positive outlook. For prayer, he asked that he be shown the way. He prays to Gramps upstairs (doesn't pray to God).

- We prayed that Mike would see that Jesus is the Way.

- Rob asked that we pray for work. He and Derrick look out for each other and try to work together. Derrick was working today.

- Hawk asked for prayer as he misses his mother terribly. She passed away a couple months ago. They both know Jesus so we knew how to pray for him.

By days end we were soaked through our multiple layers, our fingers were cold. In the van on the way back we all looked forward to warm showers but also thought of our friends who have no warm, dry place to seek shelter or area, wet day like today. We hope that through our small offers of food, clothes and prayer, they are reminded of how much God loves them.

Thank you to this tremendous team that allowed us a weekend away and to all of our volunteers and contributors who make LYNN Ministries possible.
