Jesus on the Streets - November 6, 2022

It was an overcast but warm day in Brockton as we served 97 people a meal of homemade sloppy joes and green beans along with home baked goods and fruit. We were pleased to have someone serving with us as part of her college degree in social work.

It was especially busy as Deb and I were called into the park next door to help with a double overdose. The fire and paramedics showed up quickly and soon took our friends to the ER. (This doesn’t happen to us often but it was a strange day today.) Here are the prayer requests.

  • Eddie is incredibly sad as his girlfriend’s family would not permit him to attend her funeral and he doesn’t know where she is buried.

  • Susan is thankful that the ER was able to treat her infected finger. She’s worried about her boyfriend Henry who might need heart surgery.

  • Cora’s baby daddy got severely beaten last night but Pastor Roberto was able to break it up before more damage was done. She’s also praying to get clean.

  • Anthony had a bad seizure 2 nights ago and has bruises all over his body and broke his glasses. He was very down today, which I think is related to the persistent uncertainty (fear?) of when the next seizure will hit him.

  • Our friend Chris was thrown out of the shelter for complaining about the living conditions. He’s not sure where he’ll be able to find housing for the winter.

  • Ken is praying for a good outcome from an upcoming hospital visit.

  • We finally saw Sammy again. He did not complete his alcohol detox and still suffers from extreme back pain. He’s still getting bullied on the streets but won’t relocate himself away from the troublemakers. (He doesn’t feel it’s fair that he should have to move.)

The day was full of drama but it was a really good day! Thank you for your continued support!
