Brockton - May 25, 2025
Sunday was a cool, overcast day in Brockton where we served 96 meals to our friends on the streets, along with fresh fruit (including cherries), home baked goods, snacks and drinks. We were joined by Anne, a member of another street ministry, who was sharing gift bags. We only made it to 2 stops before we ran out of meal trays and silverware and so we sadly never made it to the new shelter. We may need to start bringing more food because the number of those in need of a healthy meal seems to be increasing.
We had volunteers from Church of Emmanuel, South Shore Community Church, St. Mary's Foxboro, and St Gregory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church.
There were so many prayer requests:
- Lisa is in the shelter which is far rro downtown. She’s waiting for housing, but at least the bus service is working so she can get to all the state and federal services she needs
- Jean is praying for wellbeing
- Bertrand is praying for everything to work out
- Gregory lost weight and is praying to be a better person each day
- Marie praying for her daughter who’s not following God. But she’s happy that It’s Mother’s Day in Haiti
- Kerrie Lynn & Rebecca are praying for their children and for sobriety
- Chris hopes to be leaving Brockton with help from L-Street
- Kerry and Keith are praying for housing
- John & Ashley are praying for his sister’s wedding this weekend and for their child
- William is praying for health
- Rafael is praying for legal problems to be resolved
- Mike is praying for housing, legal stuff, and to stay healthy
- Sarah is in wheel chair having lost parts of her feet to frostbite and is in great need
- John is back in the city fora while but doesn’t pop to stay
- Noriega is worried about her hand that was shot. She lost pinky and now has to go back to hospital for infection but is afraid they’ll take more of her hand
- A woman is in an abusive relationship and was kicked out of her apartment. She went to the shelter and they “lost” her new clothes but offered her old clothes in return. She now feels it may be safer to stay in boyfriend’s apartment because “at least she knows what’s coming at her.”
- Donna says the shelter is nice but it has the same issues, not enough beds and a lot more people trying to get in.
- Francisco is praying for family health and safety at work
- Kevin is doing well and it was good to see him
- Junior is praying for his family
- Joe is a former Army Ranger who was standing on the corner holding a sign (we couldn’t read it from a distance and he folded it when we approached). He is praying about forgiveness.
- Russell is praying for patience and peace of mind. (He was really happy that we had some sneakers for him.)
- Shaun accepted general prayer
- We heard that Dawn is safe and healing in Boston after having a leg amputated.
- Jimmy is praying for better days
- Eddy is praying for his son who is struggling with addiction
- Sandra is praying for her family
- Will is praying to get clean
As you can see there is a lot of need and increasing urgency among the homeless in Brockton. Please hold them in your prayers this week. Thank you for supporting us and the work we do. We’re trying to live out the words of my pastor Steve Baker who said, “Found people find people to bring to Jesus.”
