Brockton - August 4, 2024
What an incredible day of ministry on Sunday on the streets of Brockton where we served 119 meals of a variety of dishes. It was partly sunny and the mood on the streets was fairly upbeat but the prayer requests were heartbreaking. We had a new team member in Mitch, who made his first venture with us out on the streets, and he got an eyeful. Here are the prayers:
- Al was a first time visitor to our table and was so appreciative of the personal touches he received.
- Kevin is sleeping in an abandoned boat because he got into an argument in the shelter and is banned until the issue is resolved.
- Francisco has a CT scan for his hernia on Aug 15 and (hopefully) has surgery shortly thereafter. please be in prayer for him.
- Our friend Anthony had an abcess removed from his arm and is praying he can get back to Georgia to see his girlfriend and her baby boy.
- Jose was praying for his court case that happened today (it’s never too late for prayer because good exists outside of time). He also asked for $100,000 and he promises to use it for good.
- Our fried Charlie lives away from others in the woods. His tent has been mauled by raccoons who keep raiding his food and clothes. (Yeah, he needs prayer.)
- Chris and Reschel are praying that her son gets his life back together.
- Maria Viara has cancer and is scheduled for surgery on September 20. She needed more personal prayer than I could offer (laying on of hands) so I called one of our female prayer warriors to spend more focused time with her.
- Shaggy needs prayer as he’s been feeling sick and listless.
- Mike has been cutting himself and wants to die. He’s so sad over the murder of Bobby. Bobby was the first person to greet him when he got out of prison and helped him get integrated back into society.
- Gerard is from Puerto Rico and is looking for work as a mechanic and needs an apartment.
- Eddie and Jose were an interesting pair of friends. Eddie has been sober for 18 months and praying for strength to continue fighting his addiction. Jose hasn’t seen his daughter in a year and misses her very much. He lives in the shelter and a few weeks ago he decided he’d had enough and tried to die by overdose. As the EMTs were working on him (9 Narcan) he basically died. He saw the bright light of them checking his pupils and he heard Jesus say to him, “your friends have come this way but it’s not your time. Repent and be saved and go back to the world.” After that he sat bolt upright with no negative effects and he wasn’t high anymore. Now he wants to learn more about Jesus, so we directed him toward Pastor Roberto Silveira who Eddie says, “is legit.” please be praying for Eddie and Jose.
- Another man (no name) was kicked out of his house by his wife and is now living on the street. He’s praying for clarity on what to do next and what God has planned for his life.
- Our friend Russell got robbed and beaten up badly Saturday night. We found him mostly unresponsive in the park and prayed over him, brought him water and food. The people nearby insisted he was OK and that we didn’t need to call an ambulance. And then, he just opened his eyes and was fine. We helped him sit up and he began to eat. We’ve known Russell a long time and he needs our prayer.
- Meredith was shooting up when we arrived at the Library. it is so sad to see people destroying their bodies. She knows she needs to get back in a program and is praying to be able to stick to positive daily routines.
- Kirk is 68 and after a clean life he got addicted to crack at age 62 and he lost everything (family, possessions, self-confidence). He tried to commit suicide by slicing his arms but the blood just clotted immediately. He wants to believe that God has a plan for him but he can’t see it. Kirk needs our prayers.
As you can see there was a lot going on and there is a lot of need out there on the streets. We are so thankful for your support and especially your prayers for our friends. Thank you!
