Brockton - August 16, 2025
It was a beautiful Saturday in Brockton as the LYNN Ministries team served 106 meals across four locations. It looked like we would be shorthanded for volunteers as we started the week, but seven people stepped up to help us serve and make the day a success. We had representatives from: Church of Emmanuel, St. Mary's Foxboro, Grace Chapel.
It was the 3rd Saturday so we had a full-load of clothes and toiletries but we also gave away almost 100 pairs of shoes and sandles. Our friends were so happy!
There were many prayer requests and some that we could only sense. Here is the list:
– Freddy is feeling down. He didn’t know what to pray for, but he is definitely depressed.
– Felix, who never asks for prayer, is worried by recent significant weight loss. He is waiting for a doctor’s appointment.
– Kerri, who has striking eyes needs somewhere to live. She is also praying for her 14 year-old daughter, her four year-old son and three nephews and nieces.
– John is praying to learn how to pray out loud. We prayed for him, but he says he wants to get more comfortable.
– Rui is worried about hurricane Erin as it is hitting an island where his family lives. He showed me pictures and some of the damage is quite devastating.
– Joseph is a carpenter who is looking for work. No, the irony was not lost on us as we prayed to Jesus the carpenter for Joseph the carpenter.
– Anthony needs prayer as he is missing Stephanie and Nicholas down in Georgia. They miss him as well.
– Kenny at Spring St was not feeling healthy enough to come out and visit us so we brought a meal into him in his room. He’s thankful that he will be able to talk to his grandson and granddaughter on Sunday. He has lost about 17 pounds in the past month and has no explanation besides eating a bit less. We’re worried.
– Guerino (?) asked that we just pray.
– Kenny at the shelter used to be a volunteer at L St. Ministries. When asked how we could pray for him the answer was “where do I even start?” We let the Holy Spirit lead the prayer.
– Alberta has been living at the shelter, but was assaulted by some other women. Because she was part of a fight, she has been banned from the shelter until November. She’s an older woman with no place to go and is worried.
– A woman named “J” at the shelter is from Worcester, but is in Brockton hoping to renew her CNA license.
– Antonio with the SpongeBob slippers, is praying to achieve a new and better lifestyle.
– Our friend Russell was cleaning the park and had filled a trash bag with refuse. Even after having broken his neck, and battling numbness on the right side, he is still trying to keep the park looking nice. He doesn’t ask for prayer but we pray for him anyway.
– BP (Big Portugal) is a very engaging guy who needs a home.
– Jean (a guy) is hoping for a job and looks totally lost not being able to find work.
– Michelle is praying that she can lose some weight to improve her health.
– Perry is extremely sad and hoping to reconnect with his family, who he hasn’t spoken to since 1994.
– Dan is disabled and has been having trouble receiving his disability checks. He is very worried for the future.
These are just a few of the prayer requests from the streets of Brockton on Saturday. We lift up all these prayers and also for the people who did not feel brave enough to share their concerns with us. We ask you all to keep our friends in your prayers and we thank you for your support of LYNN Ministries. God is doing great things in Brockton even when we can’t necessarily see it. Thank you again!
