Brockton - April 27, 2025
It was much cooler than expected in Brockton today as we served 105 meals to our friends on the streets. To say we were busy would be an understatement. A lady stopped her car and literally dumped two bags of clothes on the sidewalk and yelled to everyone to take what they wanted, then got in her car and drove away. Please don’t do this. It is rude and degrading to our friends, treating them as if they are animals. It also causes scuffles and creates a mess that the city has to clean up. It may feel like a nice gesture, but take a bit of time and interact with our friends, distributing what you have with respect and a personal connection. Then clean up after you are done. If you can't afford the time to do this then take the clothes to a shelter or drop-in center (like L Street ministries) where they will distribute it in a polite way.
We had volunteers from South Shore Community Church, St Gregory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church, Beacon Covenant Church, Attleboro, and Church of Emmanuel making this day possible.
There were many prayer requests:
- Crystal is praying that the next few days go well.
- Kimberly looked very pretty with a flower in her hair and is praying she can get off the streets.
- Donny & Laura are praying for a good spring and that everything comes through. (Donny was very frustrated by the number of people waiting to be served.)
- Lisa had $1500 stolen that was going to be used for rent and deposit on an apartment. She feels like she can’t catch a break. She was also remembering her friend Robbie who died of an aneurysm a few years ago.
- Fred asked for prayers for himself and his family.
- Anthony is praying to move soon and for his family.
- Donna has a lead on a possible apartment and is asking for prayers.
- George is praying for his friend Paul who is dying of cancer.
- Brandi is praying for peace.
- Bruins John is praying for the Celtics tonight.
- Freddy is sad that Pope Francis passed away and about his nephews brother in law who died in a car accident.
- Tyrone is praying for housing.
- Jose, Megan, Jean and Barrington just want prayers.
- Kafeinikorv is happy that his meds are now stabilized and working so he feels better. He’s also praying for a full time job. He’s glad that his mom and daughter are OK.
- Michelle sang Hallelujah (from Shrek) to us. She has been battling cancer and now kidney disease.
- One of our friends who has radical mood swings returned to the table to thank us. Very surprised!
- Sarah is in a wheelchair after having parts of her feet amputated. She lives under the bridge and is afraid she’ll die of exposure like Tito.
It was a fast moving day but there was a lot of joy and love shared. Thank you so much to all those who make LYNN Ministries possible! Your love is felt out on the streets of Brockton.
