Jesus on the Streets (on a slightly warmer day) - November 21, 2021
On the second day of a doubleheader weekend it was warmer but overcast in Brockton where we served 86 meals across three locations. (Deb was speaking at a church and left me in charge…big mistake LOL.) We seemed to be the only ministry on the streets today (from what we could tell) and it made the desperation of our friends feel more palpable as winter approaches and they are getting scared. This resulted in a lot of “excitement”.
One of our friends was off her meds and very angry/scared/vocal. It was incredibly sad to see her suffer and difficult not to be frustrated by her verbal abuse. Another friend was passed out near their tent and we were afraid they’d overdosed but he turned out to be OK and once he woke up he was quite coherent.
Because of all this, I didn’t hear as many prayer requests as usual. Pam is praying for health and happiness for Thanksgiving. Patty needs help escaping an abusive relationship. Clara was singing at church. Jessica was clean/sober for 6 years and relapsed when her father died of COVID. Now she’s lost her 6 year old daughter and desperately wants to make things right again. Jerry’s wife is very ill. Willy is thankful for us bandaging up his hands after someone attacked him with a machete. The cuts weren’t too deep (martial arts training) but his hands needed deep cleaning.
Thank you for your support and Happy Thanksgiving from the streets of Brockton!
