Jesus on the Streets (on a cool, sunny day) - April 24, 2022
Deb and I were grateful to be speaking at The Fellowship church today and so pleased that Tom and Deb could lead the team in our absence. They had a huge crowd and the team did great! Here’s their report.
We were blessed with a marvelous team and many friends today. God was with us in serving 91 meals on a cool day under a pleasant sun. We were able to catch up with old friends and speak to new people.
Prayers for families, housing, security and employment continue to be the common themes. Though there was hope, respect and thankfulness in the spring air, we witnessed too many people in the park doing the meth dance, which reminds us that the pain and stress of the last two years continues to prey on our friends’ lives. The youngest member of our team, Lyla, is fluent in Spanish giving us the ability to communicate with a recently immigrated Ecuadorian family with little kids. We were grateful to welcome them, provide a meal and discuss their needs. We give thanks for seeing Willie looking good and in housing after living in a tent city over the winter. Cherish and her daughter visited and we prayed for their relationship and God’s help getting Cherish's life together so she could spend more time with her daughter. Tracy is looking for an apartment that she will be able to share with her boyfriend and emotional support dog. Mike has recovered from his colon infection and now must prepare for more medical procedures. Janet is struggling with sobriety in the face of her cancer diagnosis saying, “I’m already dying so who cares?” Sheri spent time ministering to her and trying to convince her that she should cherish her remaining time. We are keeping Anthony in prayer as he struggles with his family relationships and return to sobriety. John is back for another session with the Brockton family court and hoping to get access to his children. We were glad to see and talk with Bobby and Andrea.
It was disheartening to see the tents that have sprung up in the park by the Church, a sign that the needs of this community continue to be neglected. We are grateful for the love and support that allowed us to serve today.
Thank you Deb, Tom, and team! And thank you to all our volunteers and supporters!
