Jesus on the Streets - January 29, 2023

Even though it was unseasonably warm (close to 50 deg) today, once the sun ducked behind the clouds and the wind picked up, it was cold! We were thankful that we had lots of hats, gloves snd thermal socks for those who needed them. Our friends were also thankful for a warm delicious meal and hot drinks. One guest was surprised and pleased that all the baked goods are homemade!

Our hearts our always warmed when we see small acts of kindness shown among our friends. Of course there are friendships formed for mutual aid and protection on the streets, but we also get to witness acts of kindness shown to strangers where they defer to one another. Today we witnessed someone give up his brownie when the next person in line was disappointed that there were none left…a small act but a testament to the goodness God has placed in each of us.

Several of our friends were trying to deal with/heal from the betrayal of violence. We prayed with friends struggling with addiction and fear. But we also celebrated with friends learning to live substance free and prayed for their ability to live one day at a time trusting in God to protect them from the Enemy and give them strength when the going is tough.

We served 94 meals today and saw many more of our friends among 3 locations, 8-10 of which are sleeping under a bridge. Special prayer requests going up for all those living outside as the temperature is expected to be single digits on Tuesday. Prayers also for:

  • Kristin who’d been beaten up by boyfriend and is suffering with a black eye and broken ribs

  • “J” for continued healing of his foot and upcoming surgery

  • Miranda who recently relapsed

  • William celebrating in recovery.

We are thankful to be entrusted with this ministry and pray that God will protect those we love and serve in Brockton.
