Jesus on the Streets - February 5, 2023
It was warmer today (finally) after a brutally cold start to the weekend. Many of our friends were outside sleeping under an overpass through temperatures as low as -9 and windchill around -22 on Friday night. Some of our friends were able to pool their money and get a night at a cheap hotel because there were no warming centers open. (From what we’ve heard, many cities and towns appear to have ignored the plight of their homeless.) As a result of all this, many of our friends were still hunkered down and we saw fewer than usual.
We provided 65 meals of hot soup (Chicken International - a bit of everything), along with hot coffee and cocoa, homebaked goods, fresh fruit, and a lot of love.
Keshawn praying to control his short fuse.
Robert is a Teen Challenge graduate and is clean/sober, but is now struggling to find a place to live.
Patrick woke up this week without debilitating back pain for the first time in 5 years. A month ago it was looking like he would need a wheelchair and now he’s returned to work. It is truly a miracle and he’s very excited, the happiest we’ve seen in 10 years.
Callie is asking for prayers for her friend Christina who has cancer.
Cherish is asking for an apartment closer to her young daughter.
Jimmy did not want prayers but wants us to keep praying for him. I think that’s progress?
Bobby came out from under a bridge without shoes and with a huge abscess on his jaw but he won’t go to a doctor. This is not healthy and we are worried.
Thank you for all your love and support of our friends on the street. Keep praying they stay safe through this winter.
