Jesus on the Streets (in the rain) - September 5, 2021

Today in Brockton started with spitting rain but it dried out. We provided meals of chicken piccata to 83 people but it was a constant trickle of people. We were fortunate to never get mobbed because there were only 5 of us serving.

Freddy was wearing a crazy unicorn outfit. Steven is still waiting for surgery. Jay got housing and is now hoping for a job. Rob has end-stage cirrhosis of the liver, Hepatitis B & C and is currently just happy to still be alive. Jesus has a little girl (we’ve met her) and wants to be a good father to his daughter. Tracy and Tony broke up (very sad). Vincent #1 got jumped, stabbed in the arm (23 stitches) and had his bike stolen. Vincent #2 is waiting to receive his green card (yay!). Meghan looked really strung out and unwell. Jackie is looking frightened but won’t accept help. Bobby was happy to see us and show off his scars (he still has the staples in him) but refuses to turn in the person who stabbed him because it is God’s job to judge. (I’m not sure I agree with Bobby because his attacker is clearly a danger to others.)

During our wrap up we were able to bless Officer Anderson with coffee and appreciation for trying to keep the streets safe. The whole team was commenting on the joy they felt today while serving. Thank you all so much for helping us serve our friends on the street!
