Jesus on the Streets (in Attleboro) - March 9, 2024
Here’s an update from last week’s Attleboro team from Evangelical Covenant Church, Attleboro.
It was a cold, breezy day in Attleboro, but it was a great day for serving about 35 of our friends in Attleboro. It was a bit of a heavy day, as it is becoming clear that there are more folks living outside without a roof over their head.
There is a tent village that has been expanding over the last 2 months, and we saw about 5-6 tents, where last month, there were only a couple. Most of the folks were not home, but we met Robert, who said that he spent the previous night sleeping on the dirt next to a small campfire. We prayed with him for a long time, and his spirits seemed a little better. We gave him a new winter coat and some blankets that we had, and helped him to find a place to shelter. Please pray that Robert finds a roof.
We also met a new person Corey on the other side of the city, where he was just sitting under a bridge, trying to get out of the wind. He said he and his girlfriend are homeless, and they will sometimes look for an abandoned building's basement for shelter. Corey was in good spirits, but he needs prayer that they will be able to find a room. The shelters are all full to the max.
Our longtime friends Carrie and Eric are still living in a tent outside, but Eric said that he has a job. He is hopeful that with some income, they can get back on a list for housing. Please keep them in your prayers, and for treatment.
George and Debby are also living outside in tents, and Lloyd is close to it. He has a room, but is struggling with sobriety.
John is struggling mightily with his brother Willy's death a couple of months ago, as they used to care for each other.
We saw Richie for the first time in a while, and he is still grieving over the loss of Ronda. He can't work as a painter or carpenter any longer because of a neck injury.
Please pray for our friends and for the work of Lynn Ministries in trying to encourage them.
