Jesus on the Streets (double header weekend) - September 18-19, 2021
Day 1 of this double header weekend was a humid but awesome day in Brockton where we served 80 meals of meatball subs and salad (thanks to The Fellowship). We were faced with many heartbreaking stories but also had many opportunities to share love and prayer with our friends.
Stu was asking for healing prayers because he fell and scraped up his back. Mike and Dawn are asking for safety while they live in the shelter. Paula had a really bad fall and cut up her face. Patrick’s father was diagnosed with cancer and lost his job because he doesn’t have the energy to work. (Now his parents must sell their house and move in with family.) First Jay got housing, now he got a job! Mike is hoping to get into rehab. Tim was caring for his grandmother, but now that she has passed away he is hoping to get home to southern Illinois. Jim and Sharon (we helped them last month) stopped by to thank us and say hi. Michelle is praying for help overcoming addiction and for discovering God’s purpose in her life. (And then she sang us a hymn a capella.) Kathy is praying for her sister in a hospital (in North Adams) with congestive heart failure. After 3 weeks, Steve is finally out of the hospital. Artie is new to us and he’s on dialysis and was beaten up and robbed. Charlotte was thankful for receiving a bag of books. Kimberly is looking very vulnerable and scared and we’re praying for her 4 children.
We had a fantastic day and we’re so thankful you help us serve our friends!
Day 2 of this double header weekend was a beautiful day in Brockton, with bright blue skies, where we served 72 meals of chicken, rice, and veggies. The mood was generally good out on the streets but it started with excitement as, once again, we needed to provide Narcan so someone in the park could be revived. It was also a day of reunions as we reconnected with Robert, Tremayne, Charlie, and Will.
Robert is hurting, tired of the streets, and expecting his remaining time on earth is short. Edwin and Kimberly (from yesterday) were looking much better and asking for prayers for their 4 kids. Joshua is praying to be a good father to his baby (arriving in 5 months). Tremayne (nephew of Danny, who died earlier this year) is praying his court case is dismissed this month and that he can then get Section 8 housing. We finally saw Charlie after a long time away (he’s living in the woods) and we prayed for safety. (He tells us Dan Haggerty/ Grizzly Adams was his uncle. Maybe.) We caught up with Will (finger-snap) and it was a delight.
Thank you again for praying and supporting LYNN Ministries!
