Brockton - July 14, 2024
Sunday was hot in Brockton, and tempers were close to the surface, but God’s peace prevailed and we had a wonderful day serving 114 meals to our friends on the streets, along with fresh fruit and home baked goods. A healthy meal is such a treat for many of our friends, but even more important are the healthy conversations and reminding them that they are loved and that their lives matter. We were blessed to be joined by the owners and staff of Paws & Claws - bellingham who helped serve the meal and brought 130 special gifts donated by their clients! Thank you!
Here are some of the day’s prayer requests.
- Charles, Erick and Garu joined me in reading the Lord’s Prayer in Haitian Creole
- Susan has brilliant green eyes but is upset because all of her things were stolen, including the tent that had been recently donated.
- Donna is praying for a new place to live away from the shelter.
- Patrick is looking pretty rough. He’s been sleeping outside and is asking for protection.
- Anthony had a bad seizure and hit his face requiring 7 stitches in his eyebrow. He needs prayers for healing and being reunited with his girlfriend and her son.
- Catherine is praying for housing outside of the shelter.
- Gina is waiting on housing.
- Christopher is very worried about his girlfriend who came off her meds and is in a bad way.
- Abdul is a new guy (at least for me). He’s praying for peace on the streets and the ability to use his size (he’s a big guy) to protect others from harm.
- Derek and his wife are having some marital strife and need our prayers.
- Robert is beating himself up because his wife came off her meds and so to prove a point he got drunk the night before, ruining his sobriety. (We had a bit of a chat and a prayer about wise decisions.)
- Sal turned 75 the other day so we sang to him. Happy Birthday Sal!
- James has been looking for an apartment for a year and is losing hope.
- Junior wants to get back into a sober program, but one that’s not too tough. (We had a conversation about that as well.) He needs prayers.
It was a hot tiring day, but we got to ride home with the AC turned on. We really can’t understand how difficult our friends’ lives are. Thank you for helping us fulfill our mission to the least and lost.
