Brockton - January 18, 2025
Saturday was a cold, raw day in Brockton where the team served fewer people than usual, 45 of our friends, in 3 locations across the city. Our team consisted of people from Church of Emmanuel, Beacon Covenant Church, Attleboro, (and another church) as well as some who don’t attend any church. There was concern on the streets about how the new Brockton laws criminalizing homelessness would affect people without shelter and the hostility within the city. As a result, there were many prayers requesting protection from the cold and hope for housing.
Please be praying for:
- Rachel who asked for prayers for her health
- Jose who wants God to be present in his life
- John and his girlfriend who are living with his parents and hoping to get housing
- Mark and his wife who lost their home in a fire and are now living in a rooming house trying to rebuild their old home
- Jimmy is praying things get better
- Derek is praying for safety
- Francisco has hernia surgery on Thursday and needs our prayers
- James lives alone and could use prayers
- Kierra and her boyfriend have been living on the streets for 6 months waiting for housing
- Seymour asked for prayers for his living situation
- Eduardo is praying to reunite with his family
- Freddy was worried that we might stop serving on the streets. (He has housing but we’ve been friends with him for over a decade.)
- Stephanie apologized for her behavior two weeks ago and asked for blessings. It was also her birthday so she got a song.
Although it was a slower day than usual, we suspect many people were hunkered down wherever they could find shelter. Please be praying for our friends in Brockton. There have already been two deaths from exposure in 2025 that the news has not reported. Thank you all for your care and compassion toward the least of these. Thank you also to Empowerment Plan and New England Patriots Foundation for supplying the Empowerment coats that are so desperately needed on the streets.
