Brockton - August 23, 2026
Here’s an update from the LYNN Ministries team who served 86 of our friends on Sunday in Brockton.
It was a heavily overcast day and we saw few people on the streets as we drove into Brockton but when we drove up to Perkins Park, we were greeted by several of our regular friends. We served a delicious meal of Dijon Chicken, rice and spinach, snacks, baked foods and fruit. Grapes always seem to be a favorite, especially in the summer. Our guests were very appreciative as they usually are.
We prayed for health and protection with several of our guests in Perkins Park. One woman seemed really discouraged and did not want us to pray with her saying, “the last time someone prayed with me I cried.” She did not seem ready to pray with someone today so we asked if we could pray for her while we were at home this week and she said, “Yes.”
Sariah was thankful for answered prayer as she has gotten some shifts as a PCA but she prays for more work and the strength to do this very challenging work. You could tell by the look in her eye that she is determined to do her work well.
With the food line steady but not overly rushed, we had the opportunity for some extended conversations. One guest was concerned about the increasing cost of cat food, another talked about how so many people let him down then God sent a stranger into his life who has provided him with shelter.
Just about the time everyone in the park was fed, it started to sprinkle so we packed up and headed to Salisbury Park. Perhaps because it was raining, this side of the park was nearly empty and we only served two people. Knowing that all the people who live in this park must be somewhere, and were probably hungry, we headed to the Library on the other side of the park. Quite a few people emerged from the park to get a meal and ate it under the shelter of a nearby loading dock.
We met Lucy and reminded her that God still loves her and is with her as she seeks to overcome her addictions.
Just as we served our last guest, it started pouring so we proceeded to our last stop on Spring Street where we met up with many of our regular guests.
We prayed with Rebecca for strength in a difficult time and reminded her of how much God loves her.
We also met Danielle who is living in a tent. We gave her a double portion of food because she really seemed to need it and prayed for her health, safety and for her three kids.
Then, the skies opened up and it began to pour again with a new intensity. Oh well.
It was a real joy to have two new volunteers, both high school students. They were awesome. They jumped right in figuring out how to be helpful and immediately connected with the guests. They radiated care and warmth. It’s always a joy to serve with newer volunteers as they are so open to the experience.
One of our volunteers was surprised how many young people are on the streets and how many women are among the homeless. The other commented on how our guests really felt like a community not just a bunch of strangers. This is something we all cherish.
Both the network of supportive relationships between those on the street and the relationships we have been able to develop with our guests. It’s all in God’s beautiful design for humanity that we would all love and care for each other and it is always a privilege to be a part of that.
