Brockton - April 12, 2026
Here is an update from the LYNN Ministries team that served 80 meals on Sunday (and another 20 who only took a snack) on the streets of Brockton. They had a beautiful day but with only 5 people on the team they were very busy!
The team included volunteers from: Church of Emmanuel, Jesus Revolution Church, St. Mary's Foxboro, Grace Chapel
Here are the prayer requests:
- James - prayers for health and provision. He is new to Brockton, a few weeks. He was so happy to see us today; I believe that last week was his first time meeting LYNN. He loved the welcome. His puppy is 'Brownie', and Rich supplied a few treats to him.
- Mariam - just got out of the hospital from a fentanyl overdose. Her "uncle" is abusing her. They prayed for safety and courage. She is thankful that she survived the overdose. Both Joanne and Sheri spoke about safety options.
- Gentleman John - Having an echogram, maybe an echocardiogram. He will be traveling to get his license. He did not want to pray.
- Manny - Got a job. Prayed for needs to be met.
- Tara - prayed for her daughter and her family
- Sal - Prayers for his friend, John, who is very negative towards God. Protection for Sal's faith as he deals with others who are negative. Sal brings such love and goodness – always a joy to see him.
- Donna - moving Thurs. Wrist surgery Friday. Monday dental surgery. Donna asked for prayer as she is nervous by being under anesthesia.
- Anna - just learned that her sister in Haiti passed. She was completely devastated. Family wants her to help with the funeral expenses, and she feels badly that she cannot. Joanne prayed that she be able to trust God and not feel she has to solve all these problems on her own. They let her know how much God loves her and allow that to strengthen her at this terrible time.
- Laura - Son had PTSD from active duty in service. Her son was fortunate to gain support from a service dog as a form of support while healing. Unfortunately, the dog was hit by a car and killed under Laura's watch. She continues to live a life full of guilt; however, her son has long forgiven her. He has moved on. This incident happened about five years ago. Laura cannot let it go. Sheri prayed that she could let go of the guilt and celebrate that her son is doing better.
- Jorge was in a fire recently. Will be permanently housed May 1. Katie found special items that he ordered. Jorge was so appreciative of LYNN's support. He himself is now ten years clean. He used to live on the streets of Brockton. He volunteers as well to help ones afflicted by the challenges of addiction.
- We met a man who was 'celebrating' a birthday. He was carrying a syringe on the top of his ear, like a pencil. This gentleman was defeated. We asked him his name, he stared at us and said, “I am an anomaly.” And then he went on saying that he wanted to shoot up with 100 syringes full of 'this,’ after we asked him what he wanted for his birthday. He was struggling; negatively stated that he is not worthy to get better, he does not want to try to get clean, “I am weak and do not want to try.” He needs prayer.
- GQ John - cleaning the brush over at Pastor Roberto's. We were talking with him as he commented about how he is drinking as he is working and feeling dehydrated. He commented negatively about his weight and that he has no teeth while speaking to us. I suggested that he could make other choices for himself; he responded with a quiet no. He was both spirited and real at the same time.
The park was engaging with a lot of people around as the temps were rising along with the clear blue sky. We traveled to the shelter apartments where we enjoyed conversation with Guillermo, Mary 1 and Mary 2. Linda and others. No one was under the bridges. The shelter was a busy stop. Many friends asked for snacks only.
At the last stop, there was one particular gentleman who was angry at the world. He has been in pain from his hip, needing surgery, for over a year. He was unappreciative of our efforts. As we served him, he continued to make negative comments. We smiled and explained that the food is made by volunteers and that we hope he enjoys it. He clearly was struggling with his ongoing discomfort.
We also got colored pencils for Sheila at the park. Sheila was definitely moved by the gesture.
We played TAG a good part of the day, floating into each other's roles. The day was great. We commented to each other that we were where we were meant to be today.
