Jesus on the Streets of Brockton (on a frigid day) - January 15, 2022

It was brutally cold today (17 F before Windchill) serving 54 meals (and even more people) in Brockton, on the first day of a doubleheader weekend. (Anything spilled on the tables froze within minutes.) We were surprised by the volume of people we saw because it was so cold. Two other groups were out serving meals so a lot of people came to us only for clothes and prayer. That said, our first stop lasted over 2 hours because people kept streaming in.

It was also an adventurous day as there was a house fire that affected our friends and we were invited to come serve outside the homeless shelter for those who couldn’t brave the cold to come to us. We gave out 4 Empowerment Plan coats (they turn into sleeping bags) and 60 sets of Patriots socks (thank you New England Patriots Foundation) stuffed with water and other essentials.

Prayers include Anthony to stay strong and remain sober through all the deaths and tragedy going on in Brockton. (The house fire affected his friends.) Dave who is out of his tent and in the shelter. Janet who reconnected with her sister last week and will be moving in together and off the streets (yay). Bobby and Andrea slept under a bridge by the river last night and were really cold but they were very pleased to receive hand-drawn portraits. (Thank you Jillian.) Patrick’s mom now has medicine that is working as she battles cancer. We hadn’t seen Janice in months but she’s now in the shelter, in a wheelchair, because her left foot was amputated (diabetes).

We tried some other locations but it was too cold for people to come out to us. By the end of the day the team was cold and tired but our hearts were warmed by the many expressions of love we received. Thank you for your continued support of LYNN Ministries!
