Jesus on the Streets - January 14, 2024

On Sunday, Deb and I were away but our team served 74 hot meals on the frigid streets of Brockton. Here is their report.

Before heading out we were informed that Pastor Roberto's church was closed, so we were concerned about being able to serve behind his church. After much coordinated prayer, we arrived to find that our usual places were available, and we were very thankful to be allowed to serve the love of Jesus Christ today!

The day started out sunny and windy but cold. We served a combination of meals. Tall Michael from Poland said the food was really great! People trickled in slowly so we were able to spend time with many of them and share prayer as they allowed. Many of our friends were in good spirits despite the weather. Some were complaining that they hadn't been able to sleep overnight due to the cold. In addition to the warm meal, they were grateful to receive the blankets, hats and gloves that we brought. Some of us gave up our own gloves.

While we were out we were greeted by other teams who were serving our friends.

Here are the prayer requests:

  • Jose asked for prayer for housing.

  • Kenny shared that he has COPD/emphysema and is taking medication.

  • Reschel and Christian for happiness, and healing of her son, Noah. She didn’t specify his illness.

  • Answered prayer and gratitude for Gene, who previously asked for prayers for work. He’s now in orientation for a job at Texas Roadhouse restaurant. Continued prayer, that it works out for Gene.

  • Lisa needs prayer for housing outside of Massachusetts, and for reconnecting with her son.

  • Jeff would just like prayer for peace in his life. There’s a lot of turmoil today, that he didn’t want to elaborate about.

  • Harry and his wife Laverne are looking for prayer for better housing, and comfort as they have to put their 14 year old pit bull, Diamond down next month.

  • Chris asked for prayers for his friend, Theresa, who is in the hospital, battling liver disease.

  • Prayers for George, who is a person of great faith, and was encouraged by us to find a church. He’s separated from his family and very lonely, and needs prayer for that as well.

  • Prayers for Andrew, who is living outside. It was so cold last night, that he didn’t sleep at all. He was very thankful for the food, sleeping bag, blanket, hat and gloves that we were able to provide. He was looking forward to a little warmer night, with some rest.

  • Cheyenne who is living outside, didn’t want prayer, but we said we’d pray for him anyway. He needs prayer for housing.

  • Prayers for John, also living outside. John was a bit angry that he’s living outside, and there is nowhere warm to rest in the daytime, and the shelter does not open until 4pm.

  • There were a lot of folks who said that they were living outside. Prayers for all of them.

  • Prayers for Roberto, his church, and his ministry.

Thank you all for your faithful prayers and support for LYNN Ministries!
