Brockton - August 17, 2024
It was a beautiful day to be serving our friends in Brockton, where we delivered 103 meals across 3 locations. The bridges have been cleared out of people living there, and it seems that some of the parks have been emptied as well, although there are still tents around. Deb is out of commission following surgery on her elbow and lots of people were asking for her. There were many prayer requests so here are a few:
- Mike is so thankful to be clean and sober for a month. His cancer is in remission and he and Amy hope to be in an apartment soon.
- Francisco says that his CT scan of hernia came out clean and so everything looks good for surgery in October. (This hernia is so bad I cannot imagine why he must wait.) He also has a really bad lump on the back of his head that needs to be removed. He needs prayers.
- Anthony is waiting for his social security card to be delivered and is praying he can soon move back to GA.
- Randy painted his thumbnails black in memory of Ric Ocasek of the Cars. He asked for prayers of healing for Deb and for his marriage to Maggie.
- Shaggy, against doctor’s orders, was headed out to clean gutters 45 ft in the air. He needs prayer.
- Marie was happy to see us after several months moving from Boston, to Worcester, to Georgia. She asked for prayers for the faith of her sister (Nadia) and daughter (Stacie).
- Gina and Jose are praying they get into an apartment on Monday.
- Charlie is really happy that the raccoons are no longer atttacking his tent. He accepted prayers for protection.
- Gary is praying for housing.
- Ashley is heart-broken that her boyfriend Mike died 2 days ago of a blood infection.
- Nitika asked for prayers for her 3 grandchildren and was in tears as our team ministered to her. She was so happy to get reading glasses and that we had a Bible for her.
- Rui asked for prayer because it’s been such a bad year with far too much death. (This is the most deadly year we’ve seen since we started in 2010.)
- Lisa asked for prayers for her son who has been diagnosed with AIDS.
We had 2 new people on the team who were greatly affected by what they experienced. It can be overwhelming, but we’re so thankful for people willing to help us care for the least of these on the streets.
